Freefall
I see her
standing still, petrified
like a ghost carved of stone,
her face cold and white
she now walks alone.
Without a land to call her own
as strangers settle in her home.
More vulnerable than ever before,
Her brittle roots violently torn.
They closed the door.
Empty feeling without words or form
possessed her as she packed her past
in a cardboard box and walked away,
wondering how the world could seem so vast
and yet have no place for her to stay.
Still
She knows she's the lucky one.
Lucky to have survived.
Lucky to be alive.
